THCI
Community-based organisation in Karonga
Where every heart counts
The Heart Counts Initiative (THCI) is a Malawi-based organization committed to reducing the burden of cancer through early detection, community education, and efficient referral pathways.
As a community-based organisation in Karonga, we integrate agriculture, nutrition, and environment into cancer prevention. We strive to ensure equitable access to life-saving cancer prevention and care services for all.
THCI provides cancer screening, awareness, referrals, and links agriculture, nutrition, and environment to cancer prevention.
Comprehensive cancer prevention and care through integrated community programs
We provide HPV vaccination for girls 9+. Safe, free, and effective. One vaccine can save a life. We also conduct community cancer screening to detect cancer early when treatment is most effective.
Early screening saves lives. We run community education campaigns on cancer signs, risk factors, and the importance of testing. Knowledge and timely action are our strongest tools in the fight against cancer.
We establish efficient referral pathways linking communities to hospitals and treatment centers in Karonga and beyond. No one should face cancer alone—we ensure patients access the care they need when they need it.
Unhealthy diet can increase cancer risk. THCI promotes nutritious foods: fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins. Eat healthy to prevent cancer. What we eat today shapes our health tomorrow.
Unsafe farming practices can increase cancer risk. We train farmers on safe use of chemicals, protective gear, and organic alternatives. Practice safe farming to prevent cancer and protect both farmers and consumers.
Air pollution, water contamination, and poor waste management impact cancer risk. We advocate for clean air, safe water, and proper waste disposal. A healthy environment helps prevent cancer for everyone.
Environment impacts agriculture. Agriculture impacts nutrition. Nutrition impacts cancer risk. THCI works across all three to prevent cancer at the source.
